Lakeland Health Acquires New Cardiac Practice

(ST. JOSEPH) – Lakeland Health is expanding cardiac services in Michiana with the addition of Lakeland Cardiothoracic, formerly known as Lakeshore Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery. Current providers, Kourosh Baghelai, MD, and Ryne Bowen, PA, will continue to care for patients diagnosed with an array of conditions that affect the heart and vascular system with locations in Coloma, Niles, and St. Joseph. Cardiothoracic surgeon, Stephen Dickson Jr., MD, will join the practice in July.

According to The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) National Adult Cardiac Surgery Database, cardiac patients at Lakeland spend less time on a ventilator after surgery (74% are extubated in less than six hours compared to 55% STS), there are fewer pulmonary complications (4.3% at Lakeland vs. 12.3% STS), and less kidney failure (0% at Lakeland vs. 2.2% STS).
